Great post, Silvana. This business of moving families and cultures geographically and temporally is a monster. I grew up in rural southern California with creeks to play in and 400 thou acres of national forest, married an Egyptian in Canada and then moved the family to Alexandria in the 80's. The difference between California and Canada was light years, and the difference between Canada and Alexandria was multiple light years. They grew up privileged with a housekeeper, my god. It took me ages to figure out how to deal with a housekeeper. They learned to sail on their father's boat in the Mediterranean, something that I'd never experienced. And now they are living their lives in completely different universes from me and from each other. Somehow it will all work out, knowing you and your daughter. Definitely send her out for tamales.
